Next Web Conferencing

In my last blog I discussed some ways to help figure out if you have outgrown web conferencing.  Once you figure out that web conferencing just won’t get it done for you anymore the natural follow-up question is, “So what’s next?”.  Good news…there are options!  There are solutions and services out there that can give your big idea the look, feel, and reach it deserves.  There is another thing that is important to address as well.  This is what I’m mostly talking about when it comes to web conferencing.  It is the other component that is important when you move to a new solution…the partner supporting you.  It is very important to think about what it means to move to an expanded solution like Webcasting or a Virtual Environment.  Not only is your idea getting BIGGER, the solution you choose to bring that idea to the world is getting bigger too.

So what is next?  We believe the first thing to do is learn about what is out there.  Our experience is that most of our clients are extremely savvy shoppers when it comes to learning about what is actually out there and can meet the needs of their big ideas.  We are with them every step of the way, answering questions and talking through their needs.  Here are a few things suggest as “next steps” after you have exhausted web conferencing as your event tool:

Webcasting

We have talked a ton about webcasting.  I think we have done a very good job explaining benefits of webcasting, and also getting into some of the use cases for webcasting (here is another example).  The two concepts that always seem to jump out to me are “managed service” and “scalability”.  Utilizing a fully managed webcasting solution has a production and reliability value that your big idea deserves.  Not to beat a dead horse here, but if you need to spend more time on managing the content of your presentation than managing the solution you are using to present, it might be time to check out webcasting.

Virtual Events

Virtual Events, Virtual Environments, Virtual Engagement.  These terms are thrown around a lot today.  We hear them a lot from a quite diverse group of people.  The one thing I will tell you…none of these terms are “wrong”.  Each one represents an idea that the message you are crafting is bigger than a webinar.  It is an immersive experience for your speakers and participants.  The concept, I will say, still seems to be pretty new to the marketplace.  The Lighthouse team usually works with a client very early in the buying cycle for Virtual Environments because there are so many unknowns.  This solution can be a bit intimidating at first, and really fits for a client who has a vision around their big idea.  I don’t think this is a direct replacement for web conferencing by any means.  It is more of a progression for those people who really understand their audience and how they need their ideas to be perceived.

Video Solutions

Okay, hear me out on this one.  I am not talking Google Hangouts, and I am not talking Skype.  I am talking produced video that is streamed all over the world!  This is the Steve Jobs moment for your big idea.  This is the moment that the leaders of your company can broadcast their vision (and the company vision) around the world.  This is probably the most familiar to everyone out there, and the least used.  By using video solution, whether in a webcast or a virtual environment, your speakers are able to connect with a larger audience and show the passion they have for your big idea in real-time.  Video is also fun.  I still think it is so cool to hop into our of clients’ events (with their permission, of course) and watch a CEO give a talk on the next stage of global investments or how self driving cars are coming for us!

Now, I am not trying to be too dramatic when I tell people they have outgrown web conferencing.  In fact, I typically mean it as a compliment.  The Lighthouse team is here to help you take your big idea and grow it from inception, all the way up until it is presented to the world.  Web conferencing plays a part in that.  There is no doubt in my mind.  In order for your big idea to scale up, however, you need the right tools.

Ever had that “ah-ha” moment where you knew you did not have the right solution for the job?  Let us know about it in the comments below.  Are you okay with “just good enough”?  Well, we should maybe have a talk!
