Go To Meeting

“Thanks but there’s no need to talk, we already use GoToMeeting”.  If I’m counting, we probably hear this objection from prospects at least once a day.  Most people in our industry would cringe, say “thanks”, and mark the conversation as a failure.

However, I actually LOVE when people tell me they are using GoToMeeting!  Why?  Because we don’t do what GoToMeeting does.

I can understand where the confusion comes from – many years ago when we started we were mainly an audio conferencing, meeting shop.  Hence the name “Lighthouse Conferencing.”  So naturally we get lumped into the same category as the everyday utilitarian conferencing providers. However over the years the industry and our business has evolved.  Now we are known as an industry leader in high touch, virtual event communications.  Our specialty is in virtual environments, virtual tradeshows, the most important webcasts, and white-glove Operator Assisted Conferencing events.

Matter of fact, I have nothing bad to say about GoToMeeting. They are a very popular option for your everyday calls.  Same with Skype, Google Hangouts, iMeet, etc.  GoToMeeting is a single platform with different wrappers depending on your needs. But essentially it’s the same tool.  It’s also priced very well.  And perhaps most notably it’s purchased via the web and is a Do It Yourself (DIY) option.

GoToMeeting is great for your day to day calls and regularly scheduled meetings.  They have thousands of happy customers and deliver a solid product.

We get pumped about your Big Ideas!

At Lighthouse Conferencing our focus is not the day to day.  If you’re on a call or meeting bored to death, wondering when it’s going end, trying to multitask your expense report while sort of paying attention then that’s not a call we want to be involved in.  What we get really excited about is facilitating communication that is based on the big ideas that are changing our world.  Sound lofty? Perhaps, but here are some of the ideas our clients are talking about right now:

  • Autonomous Driving, AKA Self Driving Automobiles
  • Large, financial services mergers and acquisitions
  • Global Town Halls to Integrate Manufacturing Companies after Acquisition
  • Broadcasting of Financial Results & Returns to Members of Retirement Fund
  • Development of Virtual Certification Course for Large, Dispersed Associations
  • Virtual Internal Global Sales Conferences
  • Global Investor Relations Calls
  • HR Certification
  • Open Enrollment & Benefits Education

This is only a small list of examples but you can see, these are not your normal day-to-day conversations.  The thing all of these clients have in common is they expect the best. They know that their virtual events partner is an extension of their image and brand.  When our clients are looking to make a statement, to stand out, and to instill confidence they choose Lighthouse Conferencing.

Other things that make us different from GoToMeeting:

We are a carrier class, global audio provider.

All of our audio services integrate into our virtual event products for a seamless experience.  GoTo primarily offers “free conferencing” with their product.  Some toll free conferencing is available through a 3rd party provider which bifurcates your support experience.

We are a custom shop.

At Lighthouse, one size does not fit all.  We want to talk to you. Really.  There’s a reason we don’t provision online.  We want to make sure that you’re getting the right solution to meet your objectives and goals.  At GoToMeeting the only solution you’re going to hear recommended, is well, GoToMeeting.  Have a huge Town Hall that features your CEO – GoToMeeting. Need a Virtual Tradeshow — nope, they don’t do that but I bet they’ll somehow recommend GoToMeeting.  I don’t blame them. I’d do the same thing if that was the only thing I had to offer — but that’s precisely why we offer options. We know that there isn’t one single solution to solve all problems.

Custom extends beyond our product portfolio into the services we offer. We love to help with every facet of your event. Everything from creative ways to fund your dream virtual tradeshows with sponsorship strategy to providing design services for your virtual presentation.  We think of ourselves more as a virtual event agency.  You should too.

Our team is tenured and full of real pros.

Our workforce isn’t transient or temporary. We only hire people looking to make a career out of collaboration.  Look, we really feel we are a disruptor in our space.  We don’t have a heavy handed sales approach. Of course we want to grow our business but it will never be with burn and churn salespeople.  Our process demands that the person you’re talking to during the sales process stays with you for the life of your account.  Nothing frustrates us more than building a relationship during the sales process and then being handed off to someone else. We don’t like when that happens to us, so we won’t do that to you.  It’s that simple.

We don’t view ourselves as a technology company.

Far from it. We’re a people company. Our declared Niche is that we are personally invested in our customer’s most valuable assets – their words, ideas, and people!  We want to work with you each day. We need to understand what challenges and successes your business faces. We want to be a part of making your day great.  This is a trait that everyone at Lighthouse must have — it’s what we call permission to play. A prospective employee can’t even make it to the interview stage if they clearly don’t understand why we’re here.

GoToMeeting’s business model is a large scale volume play. What this means is they are trying to sell as many subscription based web conferencing licenses to as many end users as possible.  It’s a great business model and from what we can tell they are extremely successful at it.  Their model is all about scale.  And if you know anything about scale it usually isn’t very personal or high-touch.  At Lighthouse Conferencing our business model couldn’t be more opposite. We’re ALL ABOUT high touch. We’re all about working directly with clients and adding thought leadership and personal insight to the services and solutions we offer.  Sure we want to grow and be bigger — but we will never be about mass scale.  There’s just no way to be awesomely personal with mass scale.  And if we’re not awesomely personal then we’ve failed at our chosen business model.

We’re all about working with you as a long term partner on your biggest virtual events.  It’s what we do. We’ve seen thousands of events. What goes well and what doesn’t work. When CEOs and their team need to ensure their virtual event will be a success, they contact Lighthouse.  We can’t think of a better endorsement than that.

So go ahead, keep using GoToMeeting — it’s a great solution for what they do.  It’s just not what we do. Not even close.
